2 killed, at least 6 wounded in a Southeast DC shooting

WASHINGTON — Two people were killed and at least six were wounded in a shooting in Southeast D.C. Saturday night.

Two male victims died on the scene. They have not been identified. At least six others, including an 8-year-old boy, have non-life-threatening injuries, D.C. Interim Police Chief Peter Newsham said in a briefing.

Two victims were transported by D.C. Fire to a hospital. Three victims, including the child, took themselves to a hospital. One victim was found outside Engine 25 firehouse.

The shooting happened on the 2600 block of Birney Place in the Barry Farm neighborhood around 8:30 p.m.

NBC Washington reports Newsham said police believe the shooting happened during a music event that was outside in the parking lot between two apartment buildings; and “it looks like there were multiple shooters,” though the number is not clear at this time. No arrests have been made.

Because some of the injured took themselves to the hospital, police believe there could me more victims.
