Suspicious device in Tenleytown deemed not hazardous

WASHINGTON — D.C. officials investigated a suspicious device in D.C.’s Tenleytown neighborhood Tuesday afternoon, and later determined it was not a threat.

D.C. police and a bomb squad investigated what was reported to be a hand grenade on a bench in the 4600 block of 40th Street in Northwest D.C. around 2 p.m. Nearby Wilson High and Deal Middle schools sheltered in place during the investigation.

Around 3 p.m., the “all clear” was given after it was determined the device was some sort of “grinder,” according to police.
