WASHINGTON — Union Station was briefly evacuated during the Wednesday evening rush hour for a suspicious package investigation.
The package was found around 5:30 p.m. in the Amtrak portion of the station. The station reopened around 6 p.m.
An Amtrak worker called the incident a “false alarm,” Reuters reported.
Metro transit police say normal operations resumed after the investigation.

MARC and VRE service were halted out of Union Station, and service later resumed. Metro service was unaffected.
Police have not released any additional details about the contents or nature of the suspicious package.
