WASHINGTON — About 50 people rallied Sunday afternoon outside of the White House following Wednesday’s terror attack in Tunisia.

The group, mainly Tunisian-Americans, held up signs of support and Tunisian flags while singing the North African nation’s anthem a number of times. They also recited a number of chants, including “Tunisia united will never be defeated.”

Saoussen Mahjoub, of Virginia, says Tunisian-Americans are “definitely feeling the pain that Tunisians in Tunisia are feeling today, with what happened in the Bardo Museum.”

Mahjoub is concerned about the fallout for Tunisia.

“Our economy is based on tourism. We can’t afford such events that do tarnish our reputation and our image in the world.”

The attack left 21 dead at a popular museum in Tunis, along with the two attackers. Many of those killed were foreign tourists.

“We do hope that nobody will boycott us — that people will keep coming.”

Ines Zekri, 17, organized Sunday’s protest via social media, specifically Facebook. She also had help from the Tunisian Embassy.

Zekri says she and her parents are still planning on going to Tunisia this summer.

“We invite everyone — American, European — to come to Tunisia this summer. You’ll enjoy it.”
