WASHINGTON — Custom license plates can say a lot about a person.

The man who led the charge for legalizing marijuana in D.C. is about to get a fitting one.

Mayor Muriel Bowser’s office has cleared Adam Eidinger to get “420” on his plates, a well-recognized nickname for marijuana.

“To me it’s like winning an Olympic medal for cannabis to get a license plate that says ‘420,’” says Eidinger, who championed Initiative 71.

He got a letter in the mail from the mayor’s office to let him know.

“I was just–‘Is this real? Is it a joke?'” he recounts.

The letter said the special low tag assignment of 420 is acknowledges “his commitment to and work on behalf of your neighbors and the District.”

Eidinger plans to pick up his new plates next week.

“Inside D.C. I don’t expect any problems,” he says. “I fear outside D.C. in other jurisdictions, it will just make me a target.”
