BALTIMORE (AP) — The University of Maryland, Baltimore, will build a new interdisciplinary education facility thanks in part to a gift from a Baltimore construction company.
The university announced Wednesday that it’s getting $3 million from the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company. The money will go toward renovating a vacant building on the university campus in downtown Baltimore. When the work is finished, it will be home to the university’s Interprofessional Education Center.
The goal of the facility is to bring together students from various medical fields including the schools of medicine, dentistry, nursing and pharmacy.
UMB President Dr. Jay Perman says interdisciplinary teamwork is a key to the future of health care. He says the new facility will allow UMB to be on the forefront of such instruction.
