WASHINGTON — An Arlington County, Virginia police officer shot and killed a man who was involved in a domestic disturbance inside an apartment building near Ballston Tuesday morning.
Police have identified the man who was killed as Alfredo Rials-Torres, 54, of Arlington. He died at the hospital from his gun shot injuries.
The officer who shot Rials-Torres, a second officer and a woman who was involved in the dispute were all injured, police say.
Police were called to the Gates of Ballston apartment complex in the 4200 block of 2nd Road North just before 11 a.m. for a report of a domestic disturbance.
Not long after arriving, investigators say one of the officers shot Rials-Torres, who was involved in the dispute.
The woman suffered minor injuries. She was treated at the scene and was being interviewed by investigators.
One of the officers suffered a serious facial laceration and was in surgery. It was not clear how the officer’s face was cut.
The other officer was stunned and injured by a stun gun. That officer was also taken to the hospital.
Investigators did not know which officer fired the fatal shot. And police have not released the names of the officers involved.
Neighbor Michael McLaughlin, who has lived in the complex for seven years, says Rials-Torres lived with and cared for his aging mother. McLaughlin questioned the man’s mental stability but didn’t believe he posed a danger to anyone.
