WASHINGTON — The long legal fight over the Alexandria waterfront plan has led to another victory for the city.
Virginia’s Supreme Court on Friday ruled that the Alexandria City Council’s decision to take a second vote on the waterfront plan to get a so-called “supermajority” made moot much of the appeal from some Alexandria residents who are against how part of the plan was being considered.
The group that has been fighting many of the city’s plans, Friends of the Alexandria Waterfront, says in a statement that it is disappointed in Friday’s ruling.
They say they simply want to be heard as part of the process, and will “continue to advocate for sensible development”.
The court had signaled that it might back the city during arguments in the case in February.
Alexandria has been moving forward with waterfront plans, including approval of the new building that will house the Old Dominion Boat Club.
