WASHINGTON – If the words “shucking” and “slurping” make your mouth water, get ready for the debut of a new oyster raised in Maryland.
The “Skinny Dipper” has been named the preferred oyster for this weekend’s Preakness Stakes Race.
The oyster will be served to distinguished guests at Pimlico Race Course Saturday, in an exclusive area right near the finish line, The Baltimore Sun reports
It’s part of a special menu created by celebrity chef Mike Isabella, who owns Graffiato in Chinatown.
If you’re not among the lucky ones who will be chowing down trackside, there’s another way to be among the first to taste the “Skinny Dipper.”
Ryleigh’s Oyster in the Federal Hill area of Baltimore will offer them at a Preakness party Saturday afternoon.
They’ll be sold for a “Buck-a-Shuck” along with Preakness-themed specials and giveaways. You can get all the details by visiting the Ryleigh’s Oyster Facebook page.
The “Skinny Dipper” comes from the True Chesapeake Oyster Co., an oyster Farm in St. Mary’s County.
The oyster will begin to appear in area restaurants this summer.
