WASHINGTON — Aside from its vibrant, anthropomorphic Toucan Sam mascot, Kellogg’s Froot Loops cereal is famous for its “delicious fruity taste” and “fruity aroma.” Up until this moment, this may have led you to believe that the different colored rings tasted like distinct fruits.
If you’re living in this blissful ignorance, you might not want to read this Time Magazine article. Because, if you did that, you would find out that the orange, purple, yellow, red, blue and lime green loops do not taste like oranges or grapes or limes or any other specific fruit at all. In fact, TIME says they all taste the same–like Froot.
The original debunking of this myth can be credited to a 1999 article from the website Straight Dope. According to them, Froot Loops have all tasted alike since the cereal’s introduction in 1963.
In case you’re compelled to conduct a taste test yourself, Food Beast has already done so and confirms that, sadly, all of the loops are definitely the same “fruity” flavor.
