2 D.C. ambulances catch fire

WASHINGTON — Two separate D.C. ambulances caught fire Tuesday while responding to calls.

The first crew was tending to an emergency in the 4700 block of Benning Road at about 9:30 a.m. when a fire broke out in the engine compartment of the crew’s ambulance parked outside, says the D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department.

No information has been released about what caused the fire, and an investigation is underway. A second ambulance was sent to transport the patient.

A second ambulance also caught fire Tuesday afternoon. The vehicle reportedly had an engine fire while on a call at Washington Hospital Center.
