Howard Theatre to reopen with celebrity chef menu

Howard Theatre will reopen this April after a $29 million renovation. Not only will the opening events be star-studded, the theater also has the potential to be a dining destination.

Chef Marcus Samuelsson, known for such restaurants as Red Rooster Harlem and Restaurant Aquavit, was brought on to design the menu for the theater’s supper club. He will design dinner and brunch menus and help appoint an executive chef to oversee the kitchen.

The refurbished theater will occupy 12,000 square feet and seat 650 people. New York-famous Blue Note Entertainment Group is operating the venue. It will feature a gift shop, a museum with memorabilia and more.

The theater, located at 620 T St. NW, will open the week of April 9 with such performers as The Roots, Chuck Brown and comedienne Wanda Sykes. A gala celebration fundraiser on April 12 will feature Savion Glover, Smokey Robinson and other big names. Performers ranging from Chuck Berry to Blue Oyster Cult will perform at the theater in its opening months.
