Colts claim Shipley, announce practice squad

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indianapolis Colts have claimed center A.Q. Shipley off waivers and started filling out their 10-man practice squad Sunday.

Shipley played with the Colts in 2012 but was cut by Baltimore on Saturday. He adds depth to an injury-depleted offensive line that was without its top two centers Thursday night’s preseason finale. Indy waived backup center Thomas Austin to make room for Shipley.

Indy also re-signed linebacker Andrew Jackson, a sixth-round draft pick in May, and tight end Erik Swoope, who played basketball at the University of Miami.

The other signees are offensive linemen Tyler Hoover and Josh Walker, receivers Ryan Lankford and Josh Lenz, safety Dewey McDonald, defensive tackle Nnamdi Obukwelu and cornerback Sheldon Price. Indy also will sign quarterback Jeff Mathews to the practice squad.
