UVa women’s center celebration planned

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — The University of Virginia is planning a celebration for the 25th anniversary of a women’s center at the university.

The celebration is planned for Oct. 23 at the Fralin Art Museum. The celebration will also a $3 million gift to the center.

The funding comes from Maxine Platzer Lynn. Lynn is who the center is named for.

The Daily Progress reports (http://bit.ly/YWcNXi ) the gift is the largest in the center’s 25-year history.

The endowment will help sustain the group’s core programs, which include counseling services and leadership and academic engagement programs.
