Disney World to take down ‘Sorcerer’s Hat’ display

LAKE BUENA VISA, Fla. (AP) — The sorcerer’s hat is coming down at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Central Florida. Disney officials say the giant Blue sorcerer’s hat display will be replaced in 2015.

The hat greeted fans who entered the park and was inspired by a story in the classic 1940 Disney film Fantasia, in which sorcerer apprentice Mickey Mouse steals the hat and disaster ensues.

Disney unveiled the hat in 2001 as the icon for the park in honor of the 100th anniversary of Walt Disney’s birthday. The park was formerly known as Disney-MGM Studios and is the third of four Disney theme parks located in the Disney controlled municipality of Bay Lake.

Disney has yet to say what will replace the hat.
