FAIRFAX, Va. – Voting booths in Virginia will get a facelift this November now that Fairfax County is switching to computerized books for the first time in many precincts.
“When the voter comes in they will be asked their name, but the look-up will actually be on a laptop computer,” says Fairfax County Registrar of Voters Cameron Quinn.
The computers will replace those cumbersome paper books.
“We actually can more quickly determine … who voted, and it’s a little bit quicker in terms of the check-in,” she says.
Voters will also get to chose between a touch screen voting machine or a paper ballot. People who chose this option fill in the bubble, and then the ballot is run through an optical scanner.
There are approximately 717,000 registered voters in Fairfax County, the largest jurisdiction in Virginia and one of the largest jurisdictions in the region.
