WASHINGTON — The cool weather that has been over the D.C. area for the past few days turned downright cold on Monday night, as a Frost Advisory went into effect for the northern and western suburbs to the early hours of Tuesday.
The Frost Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday, and covers western Montgomery County, in Maryland; western Loudoun County and all of Fauquier County, in Virginia; Frederick County, in Maryland, and areas north and west.
Storm Team4 Meteorologist Tom Kierein said Monday afternoon that temperatures may drop into the low 30s, and that sensitive plants could be damaged or die if they’re left uncovered.
The blue areas on the map are under the Frost Advisory; the purple areas are under a Freeze Warning, which means that uncovered crops and other vegetation will die in the temperatures, which are expected to dip to around 30.
The record lows for Tuesday’s date are 34 in D.C. (set in 1947), 30 at Dulles (1976) and 36 in Baltimore (1966).
It gets a bit warmer after that, with temperatures heading to the mid- to upper 60s on Tuesday and the low 70s on Wednesday.
