WASHINGTON — Metro riders are in for a soggy commute at one station where the floor, ceilings, stairs and escalators are drenched in water.
Tuesday’s rainy weather seeped into the Capitol South Metro station, and travelers took to social media to capture the saturated situation.
Unlucky #wmata employee is left with only one choice: let people know the floor is wet. (Not blaming him: It’s not his fault the maintenance has been bad.) pic.twitter.com/d7rjHSYtzh

In response to Twitter users reporting the wet conditions, Metro’s account @Metrorailinfo said that maintenance was aware of the flooding and was working to resolve it.
Elsewhere in the region, heavy rain left standing water on the George Washington Parkway, closing part of the roadway and prompting the rescue of dozens stranded in their vehicles.
According to the National Weather Service, Tuesday’s rainfall broke records for July 17 in the D.C. area. Reagan National Airport saw 2.79 inches of rainfall, breaking the 2.05 inches set in 1945; BWI Marshall had 2.53 inches, up from the 2.25 inches set in 1947; and Dulles International Airport had 1.05 inches, breaking the 0.6 inches of rainfall in 1988.
