WASHINGTON — Bryce Harper was named the 2015 National League Most Valuable Player by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America Thursday evening, receiving all 30 first-place votes.
It was the first such award for the 23-year-old outfielder, who beat out fellow finalists Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt and Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto.
Harper led the National League in on-base percentage, slugging percentage and Wins Above Replacement, while sharing the home run title and finishing second in the batting title in his fourth Major League season.
He becomes the first Washington Nationals player to win the award and the youngest unanimous winner in MLB history.
