J.T. Miller scores in final seconds of OT, NHL-leading Canucks edge Capitals 3-2

WASHINGTON (AP) — J.T. Miller scored with 4.8 seconds left in overtime, Thatcher Demko made 32 saves and the NHL-leading Vancouver Canucks ended a two-game losing streak by beating the Washington Capitals 3-2 in the traditional Super Bowl Sunday matinee in the nation’s capital.

Miller scored in 3-on-3 in OT off a turnover by Connor McMichael. Conor Garland and Nils Hoglander also scored for Vancouver. Thatcher Demko finished with 31 saves.

Alex Ovechkin and Nic Dowd scored for the Capitals, who lost for the sixth time in seven games. Darcy Kuemper made 28 saves in the loss.

Ovechkin has a goal in each of the past five games to reach 13 this season and 835 for his career — 60 away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s record — his longest such streak since March 2021.

BLUES 7, CANADIENS 2

MONTREAL (AP) — Jordan Kyrou scored twice and Torey Krug had five assists, leading St. Louis past Montreal for its seventh win in eight games.

Robert Thomas had a goal and three assists and Jake Neighbours added a goal and an assist. Colton Parayko, Alexey Toropchenko and Nathan Walker also scored for St. Louis. Jordan Binnington made 30 saves.

Nick Suzuki and Joel Armia scored for Montreal. Jake Allen stopped 29 shots. Suzuki extended his point streak to seven games as the Canadiens lost their second straight and fell to 1-9-0 in the second game of back-to-backs this season.
