WASHINGTON — Washington Capitals forward Justin Williams helped lead his team to victory over the over the Maple Leafs on Sunday in the team’s first-round playoff series.
But back in the D.C. area this week, Williams probably didn’t receive the welcome-back greeting he was expecting: a speeding ticket.
Williams shared an image of the ticket he received in Virginia after returning from Sunday’s win.

“I thought it was kind of funny, so I figured I would post it,” Williams told WTOP. “It was just kind of a welcome-back kick in the teeth.”
Williams said he even thinks the officer who pulled him over recognized him.
“I believe she did. She told me, ‘Great job, and here’s your speeding ticket,'” Williams said.
He said he’s received offers from “a lot of people” to pay the fine for him. Williams didn’t disclose how much the ticket was for — or how fast he was going when he was pulled over.
Meanwhile, Williams said he’s focused on Thursday’s second-round game against the defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins.
“Pittsburgh’s obviously going to be a tough opponent,” he said. “They’re certainly not going to give it to us, so we need to go out and take it.”
He said he knows a lot of fans are depending on the team.
“We know what the outside world is thinking, that we’re not going to come through when it matters most. But I think we’re just going to let the play do the talking for us.”
