WASHINGTON — Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom and goaltender Braden Holtby will join Alex Ovechkin at the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Game.
Barry Trotz, head coach of the team, also will participate.
This is the first time the Caps have had three All-Star participants since 1984-85.
In 1984-85, Washington had four players — Bob Carpenter, Mike Gartner, Rod Langway, Scott Stevens — in the NHL All-Star Game in Calgary.
Ovechkin has been in seven All-Star Games since the 2006-07 season.
The 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Game will be 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31 in Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. NBCSN will broadcast the game.
