Exclusive: Facing lawsuit, Va. elections board postpones vote certification

WASHINGTON — Virginia’s State Board of Elections will not certify results in two remaining House of Delegates races until at least Monday, WTOP has learned.

Department of Elections Commissioner Edgardo Cortes said Tuesday night that the board postponed a meeting originally scheduled for Wednesday that would have certified the final vote totals.

Just after 5 p.m. Tuesday, House Democrats filed a lawsuit in federal court asking a judge to block the certification due to dozens of voters who may have gotten the wrong ballots in Fredericksburg.

If the results are certified and recounts do not change anything, Republicans would control the House of Delegates, 51-49.
