WASHINGTON — Three people are dead in what Spotsylvania police are investigating as a murder-suicide.

On Friday around 3:30 p.m., the Spotsylvania sheriff’s office received a call to check on the welfare of the residents of the house on the 7900 block of Waterford Drive.

A neighbor told deputies that the homeowner’s dog had been running around the neighborhood, and the door of the house was ajar.

After several tries to call out the occupants, police noticed a person slumped over in a chair. They went in and discovered 38-year-old Meghan Scully with a gunshot wound, dead.

Police checked the house and found Mary Scully, 68, and Robert Scully, 69, dead and with gunshot wounds.  Mary and Robert were the parents of Meghan, according to police statement.

The gun police believe was used was found at the scene. Police have not said which of the deceased is suspected to have killed the other two.

The victims were taken to the medical examiner’s office for further evaluation.
