RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Three men have been sentenced to more than 20 years in prison for their role in orchestrating a robbery through a fake Craigslist ad.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that the men were part of a group that used a Lexus SUV advertisement to lure a man in March to rural Hanover County, where he was beaten and robbed of his credit cards, money and cellphone. The victim was also forced into the trunk of his own car but was eventually able to escape.
Omar Smith and Bennie Neal, both of Richmond, were sentenced Tuesday to 21 years and 2 months in prison, plus probation, on robbery and abduction convictions. Travion Wright was sentenced to 22 years in prison, plus probation.
Cases are ongoing for others involved in the plot.
