WASHINGTON — A welcome come change is coming to the bills of Dominion Virginia customers.
A gas rate decrease, which kicked in on Friday, will result in the average homeowner paying $4.35 less on the next power bill.
According to Dominion Virginia, the gas rate was decreased by 3.8 percent because of lower fuel prices, milder weather and efficient power station operations.
Dominion said the company is not allowed to profit on its fuel charge, which means when the cost for fuels like natural gas, coal, uranium and oil go down, so does the gas rate.
The Virginia State Corporation Commission approved the rate reduction and it went into effect on an interim basis on Friday.
Dominion expects a final order to be issued later this year after hearings on the rate change.
Gas rate changes typically happen once a year, according to the utility company.
