WASHINGTON — But late on Memorial Day, a 19 year-old man suffered serious injuries after letting go of the rope swing too soon at Goose Creek Lake in Loudoun County, Virginia.
The man ended up hitting his head in shallow water, NBC Washington reports.
Goose Creek, near the Belmont Glen subdivision in Ashburn, is popular when the weather warms up. Neighbors said they’ve complained for years that someone could get hurt.
Amy Johnson, a neighbor, told NBC Washington that she had called the cops and her neighbors have called police several times for teenagers trespassing to play on the swing.
“The kids are having a great time, but we all know it’s just a matter of time before something bad happens, and, unfortunately, it did,” Johnson said.
Since the incident, the rope swing has been cut to a shorter length and “no trespassing” signs have been posted. There are also plans to put in surveillance cameras to deter people from using the swing, the TV station reports.
