WASHINGTON — A Linden, Virginia, man has died after the SUV he was driving hit a snow plow head on in Fauquier County Monday morning.
Steven Gibbs, 63, died at the scene, according to Virginia State Police.
Gibbs was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban west on Crest Hill Road when he crossed the centerline and hit the approaching snow plow.
The driver of the snow plow was not injured, state police said.
Speed and the slippery road conditions were cited as factors in the 7 a.m. crash. Gibbs’ death was the lone traffic fatality reported so far during the Presidents Day storm that dropped snow and then freezing rain and ice across Virginia.
State police responded to more than 530 wrecks by 2 p.m. Monday.
