Va. woman who inspired local brewing collaboration dies of cancer

WASHINGTON — A woman has died from cancer a month after a group of Northern Virginia craft brewers came together to brew a special batch of beer to help pay her medical bills.

Kerri Rose was diagnosed with Stage 4 stomach cancer after she and her husband, Matt, announced their pregnancy. Their son, Lance, was born fine.

Kerri died this past weekend, Matt announced on the couple’s GoFundMe page.

“I can’t express how much you all have meant to us both and Lance over this,” Matt wrote. “All the money left over after medical bills will go to Lance’s education fund that we set up when he was born. Kerri loved your words and support so much.”

Earlier this month, 19 brewers gathered at Fair Winds Brewing Co. to brew 30 barrels of beer. They chose a Belgium Pale Ale to honor the Rose family’s style and approach to brewing.

The beer will be served on the weekend starting Friday, Jan. 29 as a fundraiser for the Rose family.

“Buy a pint and the money goes to helping this young woman, this young mother fight cancer,” said Casey Jones, CEO of Fair Winds Brewing Co.

The following Northern Virginia brewers are participating the weekend of Jan. 29:
