SMITHFIELD, Va. (AP) — Smithfield and Smithfield Foods are donating a total of $3 million to renovate town founder Arthur Smith IV’s manor house.
The Windsor Castle Park Foundation says the town will give $2 million and the company will donate $1 million for the project, which also includes the property’s outbuildings.
Smithfield Town Council member Dr. Milton Cook tells The Daily Press (http://bit.ly/1RXe1HM ) that the house will become a rental space for meetings and private events.
The foundation plans to launch a $4 million fundraising campaign to pay for additional preservation work. It also plans to seek grants.
The town owns the property.
