WASHINGTON — After Trevor Noah was selected Monday to succeed Jon Stewart as the host of “The Daily Show,” the South African comic tweeted that he was excited to step into Stewart’s shoes, saying that “No-one can replace Jon Stewart. But together with the amazing team at The Daily Show, we will continue to make this the best damn news show!”
Some of his tweets in the past have been — well, a little more problematic. Business Insider reports that some of Noah’s tweeted jokes and observations have the Internet in a bit of an uproar.
BuzzFeed’s Tom Gara found a bunch of Noah’s tweets, mostly from 2011 and 2012, and retweeted them to bring them back to light.
Weird that Trevor Noah didn’t do a quick twitter cleanup before getting the job.

A couple of Noah’s tweets are below. (WTOP can only put a few of them on this site; for others, you can go to the Business Insider site, but be warned: The language gets a bit rough.)
“Oh yeah the weekend. People are gonna get drunk & think that I’m sexy!” – fat chicks everywhere. — Trevor Noah (@Trevornoah) October 14, 2011
I’m watching Olympic women’s hockey. It’s like lesbian porn. Without the porn. #InLove — Trevor Noah (@Trevornoah) July 31, 2012
The guy seems to have a problem with Jews…. What’s that called again? #DailyShow @Trevornoah pic.twitter.com/38HXohlUvc

@Trevornoah U should cease sexist & anti semitic ‘humor’ about jewish women & Israel. #comedyCentral

.@TheDailyShow seriously not cool with @Trevornoah‘s anti-Semitic “jokes”. Won’t be watching.

Time focused on some of Noah’s funnier and less-offensive tweets, mostly dating from this year and last:
If PlayStation was smart, they’d get Brian Williams to be their spokesman- “PS4. So real, you’ll think you were there” — Trevor Noah (@Trevornoah) February 7, 2015
I wish airport security also ran the lottery because then I’d have a better chance of “randomly” winning. — Trevor Noah (@Trevornoah) December 10, 2014
I’ll miss the Olympics. It’s the one time, when a group of black people can run, with no suspicion. — Trevor Noah (@Trevornoah) August 14, 2012
No word yet on whether there will be any repercussions.
