DC barbecue festival brings weekend road closures

WASHINGTON — Hmmm, smoked meats. The annual D.C. barbecue festival brings road closures this weekend.

The National Capital Barbecue Battle is a two-day barbecue-lover’s dream — Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The celebration of all things meat and heat is packed with activities including eating competitions, cooking demos, live music, beer and wine tastings, and the namesake battle itself — which brings out some of the best-known pitmasters.

Street closures for the event started on Friday around 7 p.m. and will continue until midnight Monday.

The following streets are closed:

  • Pennsylvania Avenue, between 3rd Street and 7th Street NW
  • 4th Street, between Pennsylvania Avenue and Madison Drive NW
  • 6th Street, between Constitution Avenue and C Street NW
  • Constitution Avenue, between Pennsylvania Avenue and 3rd Street NW

D.C. police said that there will be parking restrictions along the route and drivers should take note of posted signs to avoid ticketing or towing.
