Shutdown on part of Red Line, wait times on other lines this weekend

WASHINGTON — Major Metro track work disrupts all lines this weekend, including a shutdown on the Red Line and significantly longer scheduled waits than usual on all other lines.

Red Line

There are no Red Line trains Saturday or Sunday between Medical Center and Grosvenor-Strathmore. Metro will run shuttle buses.

Due to the track work, the last inbound trains will leave Shady Grove, Rockville, Twinbrook and White Flint 40 minutes earlier than usual on Saturday and Sunday. This weekend, the last train from Shady Grove is scheduled to depart at 11:45 p.m. Saturday and 9:45 p.m. Sunday.

Metro now closes at 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights, 11:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and only runs 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sundays.

Outside of the shutdown area, Red Line trains are scheduled every 10 minutes between Medical Center and Glenmont this weekend, and slightly less frequently between Shady Grove and Grosvenor-Strathmore.

This is the final announced weekend of the latest round of Red Line water seal work in the area.

A two-week round-the-clock Red Line shutdown at Takoma begins next weekend.

Orange, Blue, Silver lines

A return of single-tracking through Rosslyn disrupts the Orange, Silver and Blue lines this weekend.

Silver Line trains are only scheduled to run between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston.

The Silver, Orange and Blue Lines are each scheduled only every 24 minutes all weekend.

Yellow, Green lines

The Yellow and Green Lines are also scheduled only every 24 minutes each.

The Yellow Line is again cut back to run only between Huntington and Mount Vernon Square rather than the usual scheduled weekend service to Fort Totten.

Trains on Yellow and Green lines are scheduled to single-track between L’Enfant Plaza and Mount Vernon Square.
