As residents ready for the Thanksgiving holiday, the roads and airports in the Washington D.C. region are starting to feel the crunch. But people are keeping in mind what they're thankful for.
Interstate 95 rest stop, Dale City, Va. on Wednesday morning — Mary King from Brooklyn, NY., says she’s thankful for life, for being healthy, and for her and family and friends. She says, I’m just thankful.” She’s is spending Thanksgiving with her daughter, her grandchildren and her great-grand children in Portsmouth, VA.

Interstate 95 rest stop, Dale City, Va., on Wednesday morning — James Brothers with his sister Ruth Watson, his niece Charlene Watson, and his five-year-old daughter Chloe. He’s driving the family to St. George, South Carolina, from Brooklyn to spend Thanksgiving with Brothers’ other two sisters. Brothers is the baby of the family. On Saturday he flew into to New York from Texas. He says, I’m thankful to be alive and to see another year and another Thanksgiving and I hope to see many more.”
Ruth Watson says she’s thankful for, “Family, friends, everyone.” Charlene Watson says that she’s, “Thankful for my family, friends and health.”

Rhea Walker, of D.C., missed her flight out of Reagan National on Tuesday. She’s thankful that she is surrounded by both family and friends. She says when she can be with her family, it’s wonderful, but when she can’t, her friends are a great surrogate family.
