NFL Week 4 Recap

Lions 10
Seahawks 13 I only gleaned two things out of this ugly battle of underachieving teams: 1) Regardless of the little-known punch out rule the refs blew badly, the asinine rule that the defense is awarded possession of an unrecovered fumble through the end zone absolutely must go. Kam Chancellor made a helluva play but KJ Wright needs to fall on it if that’s going to be Seattle ball. 2) The Seahawks should pay Chancellor whatever the hell he wants. They clearly can’t win without him. (Photo by Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images)

Redskins 23 Kirk Cousins told us he’s better and he took a huge step toward proving it by directing a 15-play, 90 yard game winning drive to win the ‘Skins a game they’d usually lose. (Although lately they haven’t; Chip Kelly is 5-2 on the road in-division, with both losses taking place at FedEx Field). Oh, and DeMarco? If you want the ball more, stop counting your money and go get more than 1.6 yards per carry. (AP Photo/Alex Brandon)
Jets 27
Dolphins 14
Either that Jets sleep study worked like a charm across the pond or Miami really took on the personality of their head coach. Regardless, Philbin is gone and it’s now a former journeyman tight end’s problem.

Jags 13
Colts 16
In a game that AARP will love, 42-year-old Adam Vinatieri tied the league record for most career overtime field goals (9) and 40-year-old Matt Hasselbeck became the oldest QB to throw a TD pass since Mark Brunell in 2010. Otherwise, two things were proven in Indy’s 15th straight division win:
1. With or without Andrew Luck, the Colts are not good.
2. The AFC South is so bad, it doesn’t matter.

Bills 10
When handicapping Buffalo before the season, I forgot to factor in one Rex Ryan staple: Penalties. His Bills have committed double digit penalties in three of their four games this season. It’s going to be really hard to end the playoff drought in Western New York without getting that fixed.

Buccaneers 23
Tampa Bay is up to a whopping 11 straight home losses. Jameis Winston is doling out Pick 6s so generously that opposing DBs are planning for them. Maybe they should aim that stupid pirate cannon at the locker room in honor of former Bucs coach John McCay …

CHICAGO, IL - OCTOBER 04: Charles Woodson #24 of the Oakland Raiders breaks way from Marquess Wilson #10 of the Chicago Bears after intercepting a pass in the 4th quarter at Soldier Field on October 4, 2015 in Chicago, Illinois. The only thing better for Charles Woodson than playing Jay Cutler is playing Jay Cutler in Chicago; Woodson has 6 picks in 8 career games at Soldier Field.

At 1-3, Houston is off to their worst start since 2008 — which is saying something for a team that went 2-14 two years ago. Given the dumpster fire that is their quarterback situation, maybe the Texans should bring native-Texan RGIII home …

How bad is Kansas City struggling? Their top scoring threat is kicker Cairo Santos (7 field goals spanning 267 yards Sunday).

Browns 27
Chargers 30
This week The Factory of Sadness churned out one of the most Cleveland things imaginable: the Browns lost a really entertaining game in part because they were offsides on San Diego’s game-winning field attempt, giving a man named Lambo a second crack at the winning score. Don’t worry, Dawg Pound. It’s almost NBA season.

Packers 17
49ers 3
Aaron Rodgers has thrown 11 touchdowns and has yet to be intercepted. That’s good for the 3rd most passing TDs without a pick in the first four games of a season in NFL history. And it’s against the team Rodgers rooted for as a kid. Did I mention San Fran really needs a mulligan on the 2005 draft?

Rams 24
Cardinals 22
St. Louis (who seem to only get up for the good teams in their division) stopped Carson Palmer’s string of 10-start winning streak — the league’s longest active streak — led by Todd Gurley’s coming out party. Honey Badger might get his answer …

DENVER, CO - OCTOBER 4: Running back Adrian Peterson #28 of the Minnesota Vikings celebrates after rushing for a 48 yard touchdown against the Denver Broncos in the fourth quarter of a game at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on October 4, 2015 in Denver, Colorado. Broncos 23
If you’re not watching Adrian Peterson as much as possible, you’d better start. His beautiful 48-yard rumble was his 17th career TD of 40 yards or more, just three shy of Barry Sanders’ record. Something tells me that mark is bound to fall.

Saints 26 (OT)
New Orleans ended a 6-game home losing skid with an 80 yard, walk off TD that also goes down as a cool way for Drew Brees to toss his 400th career touchdown pass (and his first career overtime TD, oddly enough).
Meanwhile, Dallas lost two more key players to injury (Sean Lee and Lance Dunbar) and Brandon Weeden dropped his 10th straight start (falling to 5-18 in his career). The Cowboys entered the game with a 6-10 record without Tony Romo … and just might end 2015 with a similar record if Romo doesn’t come back soon.

Ravens 23
Steelers 20 (OT)
Yes, the Steelers are now 1-7 against the Ravens when Ben Roethlisberger doesn’t play — but this wasn’t about that. Josh Scobee, Mike Tomlin and Todd Haley teamed up to become the first men to blow a 13-point lead in Pittsburgh since 1964 and basically gift wrapped Baltimore their first win of 2015. I know it’s sooo Ravens-Steelers for this game to be settled in overtime … but this game had no business going to overtime.
And somebody please check on Steve Smith’s back. I’d hate for it to get like Mike Tyson’s.
