“Beyond King Tut: The Immersive Experience” at the National Geographic Museum will take visitors on a journey that traverses time filled with sight, sound, and wonder through the world of King Tut. Transport yourself into the journey of Tutankhamun–the boy who rose to power as pharaoh of Egypt at only 9 years old. The groundbreaking discovery of his tomb and treasures in 1922 forever changed the ancient and modern world. In honor of the 100th anniversary of this archeological feat, “Beyond King Tut” brings the mystery and wonder of ancient Egypt to Washington, DC.

Drawing from the storied archives of the National Geographic Society, the exhibition combines the power of cinematic storytelling and soaring imagery made possible with state-of-the-art projection mapping to invite visitors into the Golden King’s world like never before. Visitors will enter a 280-degree projection room and descend into the Boy King’s tomb to experience the historic discovery of Tut’s treasures in the Valley of the Kings.

This multimedia experience has something in store for every visitor. History lovers will have the chance to discover more about Egyptian mummification rituals and uncover Tutankhamun’s royal ancestry. Young adventurers become explorers as they enter a fully immersive 360 projection room that transports them directly into Tut’s epic quest to the afterlife.

“Beyond King Tut will be a must-see for anyone interested in Egypt and the history of King Tut,” said Kathryn Keane, Vice President of Public Programming for the National Geographic Society. “New technologies are making it possible to fully immerse people like never before in important stories from our past, allowing us to develop connections and understand history’s influence on our present and future generations.”
