Caitlyn Jenner breaks Twitter record

WASHINGTON — When Caitlyn Jenner’s “Vanity Fair” cover hit social media Monday, it did more than turn heads — it broke social media records, too.

Jenner, who was known publicly as Bruce before the cover debut, launched a new Twitter account Monday and accrued more than 1 million followers in about four hours. It marks the fastest time anyone has reached 1 million followers on the social media site.

Jenner ousted President Barack Obama’s record for attaining 1 million followers. Obama’s recently launched @POTUS account got to 1 million in a little less than five hours, reports POLITICO.

Obama still has Jenner beat when it comes to total followers. The president’s account has 2.54 million followers compared to Jenner’s 1.16 million.

Jenner’s first tweet was the “Vanity Fair” cover, which has been retweeted more than 16,000 times as of Monday evening.
