Body found in car engulfed in flames in Prince William Co. park

WASHINGTON — Prince William County police are investigating a body found in a burning car in a Woodbridge, Virginia park Thursday morning.

Around 7:45 a.m., Prince William County fire crews responded to Veterans Park, located at 14300 Veterans Drive, for reports of a vehicle fire and found a vehicle fully engulfed. When the fire was extinguished, crews found a body inside the vehicle and contacted police.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police said Thursday afternoon. The victim’s body will be transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

Police said the victim’s identity is not yet known.

Prince William County police and fire investigators are searching for information.

A similar case occurred Wednesday in Montgomery County, Maryland, when a body was found in a burning vehicle in a wooded area in Germantown. Police released an update in the case Wednesday that the person who died was a woman and that the findings of the autopsy are pending.

Montgomery County police are searching for more details in that case as well.
