Va. turkey trot keeps memory of fallen officer alive

MANASSAS, Va. — The Manassas community is using the holiday spirit, and a turkey trot to keep the memory of a fallen officer alive.

Dozens gathered for a 10-kilometer and 5-kilometer run Thursday morning to honor Chris Yung, a Prince William County police officer who died in a crash on New Year’s Eve 2012.

“It’s all about officer Chris Yung, raising money for the Chris Yung Memorial Fund, which goes directly to his three children,” said organizer Kent Barker.

The event, which has become a Thanksgiving tradition for the community, begins and ends next to the site of the deadly crash.

“Chris was part of the community, helping with the local schools. He volunteered himself at all the different events that go on,” Barker said.

Yung was killed in the on-duty crash as he was responding to an emergency call. A minivan turned into his motorcycle on Route 28.

Yung was 35-years old.
