Police: Man tried to hit Va. officer with Jeep, drove away

WASHINGTON — Police in Prince William County, Virginia are looking for a man who attempted to hit a police sergeant with his car.

The incident happened Saturday afternoon at an arts and crafts show in Occoquan.

A red Jeep Cherokee was seen driving through a blocked off area.

When the police officer approached the front of the vehicle, the driver suddenly accelerated forward. The officer was able to jump out of the way and was uninjured, but the vehicle left the area.

The Jeep, which turned out to be a rental, was later found abandoned in a residential area in the 100 block of Gordon Boulevard. The vehicle was damaged and is possibly connected to a hit-and-run incident being investigated by Virginia State Police.

Police brought in extra officers, a K-9 and helicopter assistance from Fairfax police to search the immediate area but the driver was not found.

The investigation continues.
