Former UMd. basketball player charged with rape, assault

WASHINGTON — A former University of Maryland basketball player has been indicted on charges of rape and assault.

Damonte Dodd is accused of having sex with an intoxicated woman against her will in the early morning hours of last Nov. 1, the office of Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks said in a statement Friday.

The statement said Dodd and the woman met at a bar in College Park on Halloween night, and that he took her to a friend’s apartment in College Park. He later had sex with her against her will, and another resident of the apartment confronted him about it, Alsobrooks’ office said.

The woman reported the incident five days later, and Dodd said the sex was consensual, the statement said.

Dodd is being held in Atlanta; he was arrested Thursday after returning from international travel, the statement said. He’s due in court in Prince George’s County July 12.

Dodd, a native of Centreville, Maryland, played in 119 games in his four-year career at Maryland between the 2013-14 and 2016-17 seasons; he played in two games for the Maine Red Claws and one for the Northern Arizona Suns of the NBA’s G League last season.
