WASHINGTON — A 16-year-old and 19-year-old have been charged for their roles in the fatal shooting of a Prince George’s County, Maryland man last month.

Prince George’s County police arrested and charged 19-year-old Freddy Mendez-Cruz and 16-year-old Christian Alvarado in connection with the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Ruben Garcia-Ramos. Alvarado was charged as an adult.

On March 22, police responded to the 1900 block of Laguna Road and found Garcia-Ramos suffering from gunshot wounds. The Adelphi man later died from his injuries.

Mendez-Cruz and the victim knew each other, and an ongoing dispute between the two led to the shooting, police said.

Alvarado and Mendez-Cruz are charged with first and second degree murder. The two suspects confessed to their involvement in the shooting, police said.

They are both in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.

Anyone with information about the shooting can call police at 301-772-4925.
