‘All-clear’ given at University of Maryland after suspect search

WASHINGTON — The “all-clear” has been given at the University of Maryland College Park after the search for a robbery suspect led police to tell people to shelter in place Thursday afternoon.

Around 1 p.m., the University of Maryland College Park alerted people that an off-campus robbery occurred, but the suspect search was occurring on campus. The university instructed people on campus to shelter in place while police searched for the robbery suspects.

The robbery happened in the 8800 block of 36th Avenue in College Park, Maryland. Two men sustained minor injuries during the robbery, said Prince George’s County police.

Around 3 p.m., University of Maryland police gave the “all-clear,” and Prince George’s County police said two people were in custody in the robbery.

Earlier, police said the suspect was armed with a handgun.

Police have not released any additional details about the robbery or circumstances surrounding the search.

During the shelter in place, police asked people to avoid the area of campus in between the Chesapeake Building and the Xfinity Center along Paint Branch Drive while they searched for the suspects.
