Police charge 19-year-old man in fatal New Carrollton stabbing

WASHINGTON — A man is facing murder charges after a New Year’s Day stabbing in New Carrollton, Maryland, police said.

Jose Hernandez-Cardenas, 19, of New Carrollton, has been charged with first- and second-degree murder, Prince George’s County police said Tuesday in a news release.

Around 3:30 a.m. Monday, officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 6400 block of Carrollton Court. They found the victim, 34-year-old Elder Cruz Perez, inside his home with stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police said the suspect stabbed Perez during an argument.

Hernandez-Cardenas was arrested at the scene. Perez rented out a part of his home to the 19-year-old, according to police.
