WASHINGTON — A dangerous confrontation on a busy roadway in Prince George’s County last month has left the Maryland State Police searching for answers.
A juvenile stopped his 1990 red Honda Civic in the eastbound travel lane of Route 198 in Laurel between 3 and 4 p.m. on Nov. 28. He was then struck by the driver of a gray 2004 BMW 5-series that police say accelerated toward the boy.
Although the boy was not seriously injured, his body made a dent in the windshield of the BMW. Police said the driver fled the scene and was later found.
The victim and the suspect, who may know each other, have each given the police their accounts of what happened.
“We don’t know why the two vehicles were stopped; we’re not sure what had happened between the two,” said state police spokeswoman Elana Russo. “Investigators on this case are still looking for any witnesses who may have seen what actually happened.”
Each car had a sticker with “Backyard Built” on it.
