Small plane crashes in Prince George’s County

WASHINGTON — A man is hurt after a small plane crashed in a field Thursday in Prince George’s County, Maryland.

Pilot Michael Paul Pillsbury, 72, of D.C., was returning from Ocean City in a small, fixed-wing, single-engine Cessna 172. He was approaching to land at Freeway Airport in Bowie when he crashed.

Police responded to a report of the crash around 6:20 p.m. on Church Road.

According to the police statement, Pillsbury said that there was no lighting and he could not see the tree line as he approached the airport. The plane made contact with the tree line and overturned. He was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

There were no ground injuries reported. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
