WASHINGTON — When a retired FBI agent who worked on the Beltway sniper case was found killed in his backyard, it took three months for Laurel police to make an arrest. Now, a little more than a week later, there’s been a second arrest.
Jason Allen Byrd, 42, of Westminster, Maryland, was arrested Monday in the death of 62-year-old Scott Horn in March.
Byrd is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and the use of a handgun in a crime of violence.
“He did handy work for that family,” Laurel City police lieutenant John Hamilton said of Byrd. “He’s an acquaintance of that family — he was known to visit the house from time to time.”
On June 20, police charged Horn’s estranged wife, 62-year old Anne Allen, with murder and conspiracy.
When Allen was arrested, her attorney told WTOP the couple was not estranged but working on a troubled marriage.
“Ms. Allen has never been arrested in her life. She’s a law-abiding citizen, she’s a veteran, she’s a lifelong nurse, she’s a mother, she’s a good neighbor, she’s a good person with absolutely no record,” Andrew Jezic told WTOP.
Allen and Byrd both are being held at the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections. Laurel police want to hear from anyone with information related to the investigation: (301) 498-8002.
