Laurel man dies after being struck by CSX train

WASHINGTON — A 25-year-old Laurel, Maryland, man was struck and killed by a CSX train early Monday morning in Prince George’s County.

The train’s crew called Prince George’s County Fire and Rescue to report the incident, according to CSX spokeswoman Laura Phelps.

Laurel Police were then dispatched to the scene and found the victim dead on the tracks in the 100 block of Lafayette Avenue at Bowie Road around 12:45 a.m. Monday, according to a news release.

The man’s body has been taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore for an autopsy.

The 80-car train was empty at the time it struck the man, according to Phelps. The train originated in Baltimore and was headed to Pennsylvania.

Traffic on the train tracks resumed at 3 a.m. on Monday.

The victim’s name is not being released until his family is notified.
