UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — A Prince George’s County schools task force that was called on to come up with ways to protect children from sexual abuse and other dangers will release its findings Tuesday.
The Student Safety Task Force was created after school aide Deonte Carraway was accused of sexually abusing children inside the school where he worked.
Carraway, 22, a staff member at Sylvania Woods Elementary School in Glenarden, was also accused of generating pornographic images and recording videos of the children engaged in sex acts. He was arrested in February and faces 13 federal charges. Carraway is accused of abusing 19 children.
The work of the task force was criticized by some residents because, while community input was sought online, the meetings of the body, led by Dr. Charlene Dukes, president of Prince George’s County Community College, were not open to the public. A PGCPS statement on the task force says the public response to survey requests was “tremendous.”
