WASHINGTON — A man is facing charges for the fatal shootings of two people in Prince George’s County last week.
Police responded to the 6800 block of Central Avenue in Capitol Heights for reports of a shooting at about 7:45 p.m. Sept. 30. When they arrived, they found two victims — 37-year-old Ernest Lott and 43-year-old Garland Johnson — outside an apartment building suffering from gunshot wounds. The two men, both D.C. residents, later died.
On Monday, Prince George’s County Police Department announced 32-year-old Zephren Jamal James is being charged with the double homicide.
An investigation found James was arguing with Lott and Johnson were arguing before the shooting. During the dispute, James was shot in the hand and walked to a hospital for treatment. Once he was released, police took him into custody.
James is charged with two counts of first and second degree murder and a firearms charge.
He’s in custody of the Department of Corrections on a no bond status.
Detectives are looking into the possibility a second suspect was involved in the shooting as well.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 301-772-4925.
